Richard Avedon – Self Portrait

Who was Richard Avedon?

He was one of the most talented photographers of the 20th century. Born in New York in May 15, 1923 and died in San Antonio, Texas in October 1, 2004 at the age of 81. His black and white portrait photos of famous people are still very popular. During his broad career as a photographer he took shots of some of the most popular celebrities in the world.
I have gathered some of my favourite black and white portraits made by this amazing photographer. Let’s start with the portrait of one of the most beautiful women ever:

Brigitte Bardot B&W Potrait

This shot was taken by Richard Avedon in Jan 27 1959.

Bianca Jagger Black and White Portrait

This amazing shot of the famous Nicaraguan Bianca Jagger was shot in January 1972 by Richard Avedon. She is most known for being a social and human rights advocate. She is a former actress too.

Tilda Swinton Black and White Portrait

Beekeeper in The American West Black & White Portrait

A large format camera on black and white film was used for this amazing shot by Richard Avedon. “In the American West” is considered as the gold standard in portraiture.

These were some of my favourite portrait photos by Richard Avedon. There are probably at least 10 more images I could have selected for the post because this artist was so talented that it’s hard to combine his best shots in a single post. I think I will write a second post about Mr Avedon as soon as possible!
